Patriot League Announces Lids Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior Kelsey Minato and freshman Madison Hovren were named the first week’s Lids Team Sports Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week, after preseason favorite Army West Point was one of two Patriot League teams to go 2-0 in the opening weekend of the women’s basketball season. The Black Knights posted two wins in Christl Arena, defeating Pepperdine, 63-53, on Friday and then Quinnipiac, 67-47, on Sunday.

LIDS TEAM SPORTS PATRIOT LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK 
KELSEY MINATO, ARMY WEST POINT
 Sr., 5-8, G, Huntington Beach, Calif.
Minato reached a game high of 28 points in the season opener against Pepperdine on Friday, shooting 9-of-19 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. In addition, the senior finished with a game-high-tying eight rebounds. Minato then followed up with 26 points versus Quinnipiac on Sunday. She was 7-of-16 from the field and had a team-leading seven rebounds. Minato has now improved her Patriot League-leading double-digit scoring streak to 82 games.

LIDS TEAM SPORTS PATRIOT LEAGIE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
MADISON HOVREN, ARMY WEST POINT
 Fr., 5-11, F, Spokane, Wash.
Hovren finished with four points and five rebounds, after coming off the bench in her career debut against Pepperdine on Friday night. The rookie from Spokane, Wash. went 2-for-2 from the field and totaled five points in addition to posting three boards during Sunday’s game versus Quinnipiac. All of her efforts against the Bobcats helped Army erase a late deficit and secure the win.

HONORABLE MENTION

RAQUEL SCOTT, HOLY CROSS
 Sr., 6-0, F, Ridgewood, N.J.
In the season opener against Penn State, Scott posted a 36-point, 11-rebound double-double and set career highs in points (36), three-pointers made (four), and minutes played (43). She moved into fourth place on Holy Cross’ all-time rebounds list with 776 career boards.

LEXI MARTINS, LEHIGH, Jr., 6-0, F, Irvington, N.Y.
Martins tallied a pair of double-doubles in Lehigh’s opening weekend victories, averaging 20.5 points and 17 rebounds per game. After helping the Mountain Hawks to an overtime win over Monmouth (95-88), Martins posted a career-high 20 rebounds and shot 71.4 percent (10-for-14) from the field.

CLAIRE DEBOER, BUCKNELL Jr., 6-1, F, Grosse Pointe, Mich.
On Friday, DeBoer recorded her 10th career double-double versus Cleveland State with 15 points and 11 rebounds. She was then just shy of posting another double-double at No. 3 Notre Dame with 14 points and nine rebounds.
